about

This track's a bit dense metaphorically. It's about realizing the introjections that we incorporate into our personality. Cousin Ed (who throws the pie) is Ed Deci, who taught me to really question the way I judge myself.

lyrics

Everything was great until you showed up late
to the dinner party
The guests were stark raving mad
that I'd never mentioned my Long Lost Twin Dad
and until this moment, I had never met him

And he must be a magician
because the room began to spin
is it really him?

It's the talk of the town
The candles are burning down
Quicksand for every memory
And member of the family
You'd have to squint to see...(it wasn't me)

Everything was great until you woke up late
in a field of poppies
The Dream had already ended
leaving you feeling fuzzy headed
and what are you doing looking through my eyes?

I can only see out one eye
and through a rosy-colored lens
I couldn't tell if he's my friend

It's the talk of the town
The candles are burning down
Quicksand for every memory
And member of the family
You'd have to squint to see...
...oh but secretly he was just as confused as me

I looked at him
he scratched his chin and said
"Well I'll come back here later if you let me in"
and as he waited for my reply
cousin Ed hit him with a pie!

AND as the pandemonium broke
He pulled me close and he spoke
and said "I'm not yr dad and yr a clever lad
but yr like the son I never had"
I said "its gonna make you sad, man,
but yr gonna have to go,
I said you can't stay here anymore, no
you can't stay here anymore"
